The museum itself is a museum
Some of the museums of Vienna can be considered a museum when considereing the building only. The Museum of Fine Arts is among the most important museums in the world. The Albertina owns one of the biggest collection of drawings in the world. Beside the big collections of paintings, there are a lot of other museums like the treasury, the museum of ethnology, the museum of natural history, the national library, the army museum or the Museum of technics. You can find also some bizarre museums like the burial museum, the criminal museum or the Schnapsmuseum.

Private collections, galleries and museums
The Viennese himself has always been a collector. Consequently there are quite some remarkable private owned galleries and museums, respectively private collections shown in public museums. One of the most remarkable collections of this kind is the Sammlung Essl. The industrialist Essl and his family have opened some years ago their own museum in Klosterneuburg, north of Vienna, in order to show the public their excellent collection of contemporary art.
