The traditional "Wiener Christkindlmarkt" is one of the biggest attractions during this time of the year. Since approximately 700 years it was held on different places in the city, since quite some decades it takes place on the big square in front of the city hall. The giant christmas tree is a present of the federal provinces of Austria.
The Culture- and Christmasmarketin front of Scjönbrunn Palace is each year a presentation of traditional handcraft and nice present ideas. The flavour of fresh christmas bakery and hot punch coats the market in a cosy atmosphere, to really feel christmas atmosphere again.
An insider tip is the Christmasmarket on Spittelberg with its wide spread choice of handcrafts and arts. In narrow streets with old buildings you can feel like in former times.
Since a few years there are also the Christmas Villages in front of Belvedere Palace, on Maria-Theresien-Platz and at Altes AKH.
