Experience the beauty of the Vienna Woods
From the Wiener Becken to the Traisen and Gölsen area: having 1.300 square kilometres intact nature close to a megacity is something rare and very special worldwide. The Greeks already mentioned the Wienerwald as woody mountains, and the Romans discovered its natural powers for healing and recreation. Today the thermal springs around the city Baden still refresh body and soul - they could serve as a relaxing finishing point and highlight of a hiking tour.
Another destination after a long hike could be one of the many Heurigens: Wine, which grows on the romantically situated hillsides, can be tasted in the Heurigens alongside the path. The oldest Nature Park in Austria lies amid the Föhrenberge. The walled in park-like area seduces with giant trees, romantic ruins and spacious meadows. It holds out an invitation to walk through this Vienna Wood area which was created during the pre-revolution period of Biedermeierzeit (1815-48).
The Wiener Hausberge
That is how we call the pre-alps in Lower Austria. They are spread from the Vienna Woods north of Vienna south to the Schneeberg, the highest mountain in Lower Austria with 2.076m altitude. Nearly all of the summits in this area can be reached without any climbing experience or equipment..
